1 Peter 1:15: “But as the one who called you is holy, you also are to be holy in all your conduct;”
God’s attribute of holiness is both a source of strength and a call to action. No matter where you are, who you are with, or what your level of influence is, you are called to be holy. In Hebrews 12:14, the writer says, “Pursue peace with everyone, and holiness - without it no one will see the Lord.”
This verse boldly states that others will not see Christ in you if you yourself are not pursuing holiness. The pursuit of holiness not only results in personal transformation, but in becoming salt and light to everyone you encounter. Guard yourself from a ‘holier than thou’ attitude by remembering that we can only boast in the cross (Galatians 6:14).
Someday we will stand in front of our holy God and take account of our lives, not generally but specifically (Romans 14:12). Every word, every action, and every thought will be on the table, for God knows all things. May we be able to say that we were holy as He is holy.
