Student Camp 2024 FAQ

Parents, we know it’s a big deal for you to entrust your student to us, and we do not take that lightly. Here are some of our most frequently asked questions for Middle School and High School Camps. If you still need help or don’t find what you’re looking for, contact us at

Frequently Asked Questions:

Which camp should I sign my student up for? Middle School camp is for students who will be entering grades 6, 7, or 8 in the fall of 2024. High School camp is for students who will be entering grades 9, 10, 11, or 12 in the fall of 2024, and 2024 graduates.

We attend online. Can my student come to camp? Yes! We love for our online attendees to join us for camp!

Will my student be with their friends? During registration, you have the opportunity to list up to three friends your student would like to be with. While we cannot guarantee they will be in a family group or dorm with all three friends listed, we make every effort to keep friends together.

Will my student be with students in other grades? Family groups are typically made up of a single grade. All students will be together during worship services, meals, and team rec.

Will my student be with an adult at all times? Your student will have times where they may not be directly supervised by the adult assigned to their group. However, they will be in proximity to other adults at all times.

Who are the leaders? Our leaders are made up of Long Hollow volunteers. We are blessed to have a wide variety of volunteers who care for our students, and we are grateful they choose to give of their time and resources to help guide our students as they discover more about God’s Word. We take the safety of our students very seriously. Every volunteer who works with students at Long Hollow is required to submit a leader application, is interviewed by our staff, and must undergo a background check and sexual abuse prevention training. What are Theme Days? Theme Days are another way we like to bring fun to camp. We allow students to dress up and get creative with their family groups to build camaraderie and a little bit of fun competition. They are completely optional, and your student may choose not to participate. Theme Day information can be found on the Student Camp website or in your registration confirmation email.

My student is responsible. Do they really have to check-in their medication with the nurse? As the parent, you know your student and whether they are able to take their medication on the proper schedule. If you aren’t sure if your student will remember or be responsible, please turn in their medication at check in. Our medical team is made up of excellent caregivers who will ensure your student receives their medication as directed. It only takes moments for your child to receive medication from our medical team, so it will not take time away from their group time or activities. Whether you choose to turn in medication to the nurse or allow your student to administer it themselves, all students who bring medication to camp must have a completed medication form and should leave all medications in their original bottles and only bring enough for our time at camp.

Can I drop my student off/pick them up at camp? We believe camp begins the moment your student steps on the bus. For that reason, we much prefer that all students ride the bus to and from Long Hollow. However, if you’re joining us from our online campus, arrangements can be made for you to drop off or pick up your child at Ocoee Ridge Camp. Contact us at to make arrangements. There is no discount for providing your own transportation to/from camp.

Can I attend camp with my student? You are welcome to attend camp as a volunteer and lead a group. You can choose to lead your student’s group or a different group. You can register to volunteer at camp here. If you have questions or would like more information on being a leader, contact

Can my student take their cell phone to camp? Yes. However, we prefer they remain put away as much as possible. Camp is a time to step away from the distractions of the world, and cell phones can be a challenge. If it becomes a distraction, your student will be asked to put it away. We are not responsible for loss or damage to phones. Other devices (Switch, iPads, etc.) are not permitted.

Can my student call home if they don’t have a cell phone? We want students to be able to reach their parents whenever they need to. Your student’s leader will help them call home if they don’t have their own cell phone. Please make sure your student knows how to reach you and/or has important numbers written down. However, please note that cell service can be spotty in the mountains.

How much money does my student need? Please do not send large amounts of money with your student. All meals are covered at camp and the buses will not plan to stop on the way there or back. Ocoee Ridge Camp has a small store where students can purchase snacks, any toiletries they may have forgotten, or Ocoee Ridge Camp merchandise. Many students spend an average of $50, but it’s entirely optional. Cash is preferred but cards are accepted for purchases of $10 or more. Dorms do have vending machines, so $1 bills may be helpful to your student should you choose to send money for extra snacks.

Can my student bring snacks? Absolutely.

What if my student has food allergies? We take food safety very seriously, as does Ocoee Ridge Camp. Please notify us during registration of your student’s allergies. ORC has a refrigerator available for students with severe allergies who need to bring their own food. They also have options for students with gluten, dairy, and peanut allergies.

What’s the schedule like? From the moment your student steps on the bus, we focus on maximizing our time at camp. We will have morning and evening large group worship, family group times, and afternoon rec. We go hard all day and know it is important for students to get enough rest, so we schedule lights out by 11 p.m. every night and students are not required to be up before 7 a.m. most mornings.

How does the white water rafting for high school work? High school students who choose to go white water rafting must sign up during camp registration, have a guardian fill out the release, and pay the additional $40 fee. All of these requirements must be met before we leave for camp. Spots are limited to maximize safety for all students. The rafting adventure is run entirely by a local rafting company, complete with transportation to and from the river, as well as trained guides. Students will be supervised by an adult with Long Hollow and the rafting company at all times. Rafting times will be selected prior to camp departure. If you signed up for rafting during registration, be on the lookout for an email with further instructions.

Are scholarships available? Yes! To apply for a scholarship, please register your student for camp and pay the deposit. This secures your student’s spot at camp.
