Frequently Asked Questions:

I have a rising 6th grader. Which camp should my child attend? Rising 6th graders are invited to attend Middle School Camp with the Student Ministry. You can find information here.

We attend online. Can my student come to camp? Yes! We love for our online attendees to join us for camp!

Will my child be with their friends? During registration, you have the opportunity to list one friend your child would like to be with. While we cannot guarantee they will be in a cabin with their friend, we make every effort to keep friends together and honor cabin requests.

Will my child be with children in other grades? Camp is for rising 2nd-5th graders. Typically, we group 2nd-3rd graders together in cabins and 4th-5th graders together. Some of this depends on registration numbers. All campers will be together during worship and main session times.

Will my child be with an adult at all times? Yes, adult supervision is always required and we operate with a two-adult rule, meaning that at least two adults are supervising children at all times.

Who are the counselors? Our counselors are made up of Long Hollow leaders. We are blessed to have a wide variety of volunteers who care for our children, and we are grateful they choose to give of their time and resources to help guide our children as they discover more about God’s Word. We take the safety of our students very seriously. Every leader who works with children at Long Hollow is required to be a member of Long Hollow, submit a leader application, is interviewed by our staff, and must undergo a background check and sexual abuse prevention training. Additionally, camp counselors are required to receive training specific to the camp environment. While we welcome parents to volunteer at camp, we often give priority to our existing Long Hollow Kids Team Volunteers since they have invested relationships with the children at camp. If you’d like to volunteer, simply text READY to 98173 and select Kids or contact Jennifer.White@longhollow.com (females) or Ryan.Hammonds@longhollow.com (males) if you’re interested in being a cabin leader.

My child is responsible. Do they really have to check-in their medication with the nurse? Yes. This policy is for the safety of all children in our care. Our medical team is made up of excellent nurses and/or medical professionals who will ensure your child receives their medication as directed. All medication will be turned to the Camp Nurses on the day of departure. Please complete the Camp Medication Form and send the completed form along with the medication in a sealed Ziploc baggie.

Can I drop my student off/pick them up at camp? We believe camp begins the moment your student steps on the bus. For that reason, we much prefer that all students ride the bus to and from Long Hollow. However, if you’re joining us from our online campus, arrangements can be made for you to drop off or pick up your child at Carson Springs. Contact us at lhkids@longhollow.com to make arrangements. There is no discount for providing your own transportation to/from camp.

Can I attend camp with my child? You are welcome to submit an application to serve at Kids Camp. We love including parents on our camp leader team. All volunteers are required to be church members, complete a leader application, complete a background check, and complete a sexual abuse training course in addition to camp-specific training.

Can my student take their cell phone to camp? No. Kids Camp is a tech-free zone. Tablets, phones, and gaming systems are not permitted. Our goal is to provide a tech-free and distraction-free zone where children can focus on their relationship with the Lord. We also don’t want devices to be accidentally damaged, lost, or stolen.

Can my student call home if they don’t have a cell phone? We want students to be able to reach their parents whenever they need to. Your student’s counselor will help them call home. We also encourage our cabin leaders to send a nightly group text message to the parents but please keep in mind they are also caring for the children in their group and cell phone service can be spotty at times.

How much money does my student need? Please do not send large amounts of money with your student. All meals are covered at camp and the buses will not plan to stop on the way there or back. Carson Springs has a small store where children can purchase snacks, toys, treats, or Carson Springs merchandise.

Can my student bring snacks? No. We will provide three meals per day and plenty of snacks, including a snack on the bus both to and from camp. We do ask that all campers bring a reusable water bottle with their name clearly marked on it.

What if my student has food allergies? We take food safety very seriously, as does Carson Springs Camp. Please notify us during registration of your student’s allergies. Our camp team will be in contact with you regarding any severe allergies so we can be best prepared to care for your child while at camp. The team at Carson Springs has ample experience providing allergy-friendly meals and has even offered to talk with parents directly regarding any allergy concerns.

What’s the schedule like? From the moment your child steps on the bus, we focus on maximizing our time at camp. We will have morning and evening large group worship, cabin group times, swim time, and rec time. There will be some down time throughout the day for children to rest, but for the most part, we keep our days jam packed with fun activities.

Are scholarships available? Yes! To apply for a scholarship, please register your child for camp and pay the deposit of $20. This secures your child’s spot at camp. The scholarship application is included in the confirmation email you’ll receive after registration. If you have any questions, please contact Adam Graves at Adam.Graves@longhollow.com.
