How do you feel about the fact that God is perfectly complete without you?
I’ll admit it…my initial thoughts were that I felt unwanted and unappreciated because we all have an innate desire to bring value in our lifetime, and more specifically to add value to the lives of those closest to us. But can you imagine if God needed us to complete Him?
If God needed us He would cease to be God. John 5:26 says, “For just as the Father has life in Himself, so also He has granted to the Son to have life in Himself.” God the Father, God the Holy Spirit, and God the Son are perfectly complete and self-sufficient.
But how can this attribute of God encourage us in our day-to-day? The self-sufficiency of God puts to death every lie that tells us we must perform to be accepted by God. We cannot earn God’s favor, nor can we lose His favor.
The self-sufficiency of God also crushes pride and selfish ambition. We cannot add anything to the worth of Christ. In fact, we cannot “claim anything as coming from ourselves, but our adequacy is from God” (2 Corinthians 3:5). Not only is He complete in Himself, but we are complete in Him.
